Childhood Hunger in the United States More than 16 million children in the United States live in food insecure homes. – No Kid Hungry Nearly half of all people who use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps) are kids. – No Kid Hungry Of the 31 million students who received five billion school meals during the 2013-14 school year, 62 percent were free of charge, 8 percent were reduced price, and the other 30 percent were paid. – New American Foundation 3 out of 5 teachers say they children in their classrooms who regularly come to school hungry. – No Kid Hungry Three prevalent consequences of hunger in schools: Inability to concentrate, poor academic performance, & headaches and stomach aches. – No Kid Hungry
